š Top 5 Taco Joints in Boulder
1. T/aco ā 1175 Walnut St
Itās no surprise that T/aco got the top spot for Best Tacos ā all of its street tacos are absolutely amazing and packed with so much flavor. Start with the guacamole and house-made chips, followed by three to four tacos. Try the carnitas with a pineapple salsa, the mushroom taco for a vegetarian option, or the barbacoa with a roasted salsa verde. But the BEST taco, arguably, that weāve ever had? The grilled cotija. It sounds simple ā and it is ā but the salty cotija mixed with the salsa verde is a perfect combination. Pair any taco with its classic house marg or for something sweeter but not overpowering, opt for the pomegranate margarita.
2. McDevitt Taco Supply ā 4800 Baseline Rd
McDevitt is another street taco staple in Boulder. It started with a taco cart on Pearl Street in 2011. They parked that cart at Santias Brewing (which is still there today to pair with the brews) but moved into a brick-and-mortar spot in 2017 in the Meadows Shopping Center, located at Baseline and Foothills Parkway. They also have a location in Denver at the Vīb Hotel. For eats, get any taco with the kale salad, like the Lightning Taco with green chili and chicken or The Thunder with pork chorizo. For a veg option, try the roasted sweet potato and black bean, or the Kale Yeah! With kale, corn and cabbage. The queso is also prime, with a creamy consistency and cheese-forward flavor.
3. QuĆ© Rico! ā 1905 29th St
With a fast-casual vibe, QuƩ Rico! offers quick and tasty options. For tacos, try the fried fish taco with a mango garnish or the Mary Tierra taco with steak and shrimp. For the most economical deal, you can get four street tacos for just $14, which include options such as birria, carne asada, al pastor, chicken tinga, veggies, or a combination of pork and steak (campechano). Top everything off at their salsa bar. On Tuesdays, get four tacos for $12.
4. Bartaco ā 1048 Pearl St
Bartaco is definitely a go-to place when you want tacos and the like, but with a more upscale vibe. The restaurant features coastal decorations that complement its meat and seafood dishes, such as the Baja fish tacos, crispy shrimp tacos, or ahi tuna tostada. If you arenāt feeling the seafood, try its mojo pork carnitas tacos, seared chorizo, or marinated wild mushroom tacos with a poblano chili sauce. For drink specials, head to the bar weekdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. or Monday through Thursday for late-night happy hour from 9:30 p.m. to close.
5. Cozobi Fonda Fina ā 909 Walnut St
Opening in 2024, Cozobi is named after the Zapotec god of corn. Although not necessarily a go-to taco place (currently, the only taco on its menu is the sakura pork collar with habanero oil and black beans), Cozobiās menu is stacked with high-end food that is rooted in Mexicoās centuries-old corn nixtamalization traditions and wood-fire cooking techniques. Bonus: Cozobi Fonda Finaās menu is entirely gluten-free. Try the camote asado with charred sweet potato, the flavorful and thick queso fundido, or any dish from the De Nixtamal section on the menu, such as the quesadilla frita with oyster mushrooms and queso fresco.
