Overview
CSU Libraries presents Saving the Past for the Future: 50 Years of Archives at CSU, a commemorative exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the University Archives. On view throughout CSU’s Morgan Library from Fall 2025 through Spring 2026, the exhibition highlights the evolution of the Archives and its essential role in preserving the university’s history and collective memory.
Founded on July 1, 1975, the University Archives was established as the official repository for CSU history. Born out of the university’s centennial celebration in 1970, the Archives united previously scattered records from an institution that had long pursued its agricultural and technical land-grant mission without a centralized effort to preserve its own story.
Over the past five decades, the Archives has grown from makeshift pegboard walls into a climate-controlled suite on Morgan Library’s second floor, with additional offsite storage. Today, the Archives is part of the CSU Libraries’ Digital and Archive Services Department, which provides access to more than 550 archival collections that document CSU’s history and Colorado’s water and agricultural heritage. The department also stewards 150 terabytes of digital files and thousands of rare books, maps, and posters, which are available both in person and through the university’s digital repository, Mountain Scholar.
“Archives and Special Collections plays a vital role in connecting the university community to its past,” said Clarissa Trapp, Instruction & Outreach Archivist at CSU Libraries. “Our collections not only preserve CSU’s institutional memory but also empower students, faculty, and researchers to engage critically with the university’s history—seeing how it has evolved, learning from its challenges, and finding inspiration for the future.”
Saving the Past for the Future offers an opportunity to reflect on the people and events that have shaped both the Archives and the university over the last 50 years. The exhibition also underscores the enduring importance of documenting the past—so that students, faculty, and community members may continue to conduct research, celebrate milestones, cultivate curiosity, and hold one another accountable for generations to come.

Overview
CSU Libraries presents Outstanding in Our Field: CSU’s Impact on Colorado Horticulture, a new exhibition opening April 3, 2026, in CSU’s Morgan Library. On view through Spring 2027, the exhibition details the deep and enduring relationship between Colorado State University and horticulture, tracing CSU’s lasting impact on food and flower production in Colorado and throughout the world.
Much of Colorado’s 20th-century economic infrastructure was built on horticultural production, from sugar beets grown across the Eastern Plains to carnations cultivated in the San Luis Valley. The exhibition illuminates how CSU’s Experiment Station and Extension Service have been at the heart of this agricultural legacy, equipping farmers, growers, and producers throughout Colorado with research-backed knowledge and hands-on training.
Crop cultivation still has a complex and interconnected relationship with Fort Collins and Colorado State University today. Many farms and crop producers throughout Colorado learned their trade using research from CSU’s Experiment Station or through the Colorado Extension Service, or were educated at CSU. This exhibition explores those ties, describing the depth in which CSU has helped local communities grow Colorado’s economy and reputation as an agricultural powerhouse.
Curated and designed by Max Fields, Instruction & Outreach Student Assistant in Archives & Special Collections, and Silvia Minguzzi, Exhibition Coordinator & Graphic Designer, the exhibition draws on materials held in CSU’s Archives and Special Collections to tell a story of scientific innovation, community partnership, and agricultural transformation across more than a century.
The exhibition covers the cultivation of staple crops such as sugar beets and carnations, the role of the Colorado Extension Service in spreading agricultural knowledge to rural communities, and the ways CSU research has informed farming practices both locally and globally. Visitors will gain a rich picture of how science, education, and community have combined to shape Colorado’s agricultural identity.
Outstanding in Our Field is free and open to the public. The exhibition runs Spring 2026 through Spring 2027 in CSU’s Morgan Library and is part of CSU Libraries’ ongoing commitment to connecting the university’s archival collections with the broader Colorado community.

Overview
Hatton Gallery’s Embodied Art & Technology Program presents Quickening: Aesthetic Encounters and the Ecological Imagination, an immersive video exhibition featuring three leading artists create powerful perceptual environments that awaken ecological consciousness.
Sofia Crespo, Timur Si-Qin, and Erin Espelie craft distinct visual worlds through custom-trained machine learning, ultra-high-definition 3D simulation, and Super 8mm film, drawing viewers into intimate and heightened encounters with planetary-scale biodiversity. Presented within a state-of-the-art immersive projection environment, Quickening renders these works in embodied, emotive form and affirms the aesthetic experience as a vital force in deepening our ecological imagination.
Now in its second year, the Embodied Art & Technology Program transforms the gallery into a site of embodied experience, emotional resonance, and community exchange around urgent contemporary questions. The program launched in Spring 2025 with the virtual reality exhibition The Hangman at Home.
Led by Xinran Yuan, Director of Exhibitions and Community Engagement, the Embodied Art & Technology Program at Hatton Gallery is generously supported by Colorado State University’s University Technology Fee Advisory Board (UTFAB) and the City of Fort Collins’ Fort Fund Grant Program, and developed in partnership with the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance and the College of Liberal Arts’ Future of Creativity initiative.
The Quickening exhibition is realized in collaboration with Michael Highsmith, Technical Director; Theo Kuehn (’27), Lead Projection Designer and Technologist; and Shane Slattery-Quintanilla, Co-Curator.

Overview
CSU Libraries presents On the Walls at CSU: Posters from the 1970s, a companion exhibition highlighting the visual culture, student activism, and creative energy that shaped Colorado State University during a pivotal decade. On view in CSU’s Morgan Library through Spring 2026, the exhibition features posters, exhibition panels, and publications produced at CSU in the 1970s and preserved in the University Archives.
Part of a triple milestone celebration marking the 50th anniversary of CSU’s University Archives, the 150th anniversary of the State of Colorado, and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, On the Walls at CSU invites visitors into a decade defined by bold graphic design, grassroots activism, and a renewed interest in history and identity.
The posters on display advertised campus activities and events and would have been encountered by students as they moved across campus. Many were designed by CSU Graphic Design emeritus professors and internationally recognized artists Bob Coonts, Phil Risbeck, and John Sorbie, whose work helped define the university's visual language during this era.
Also featured are exhibition panels celebrating major academic milestones for CSU Libraries, including the acquisition of the 800,000th and 1,000,000th volumes. These materials reflect a period of significant growth for the Libraries, coinciding with CSU’s emergence as a premier research institution.
Selections from The Rocky Mountain Collegian and The Silver Spruce yearbook further document student life in the 1970s, revealing a campus community actively engaged in free speech, advocacy, institutional change, and cultural expression.
Together, the posters, panels, and publications on view illustrate how creativity and activism shaped everyday campus life while laying foundations for the university’s future. Preserved within CSU’s Archives and Special Collections, these materials remain available for research and rediscovery by today’s CSU community.

In this atmosphere of uncertainty, GAIA wanted to explore what we might envision our futures to look like. What will the environment look like? World politics? The economy? As we get older, what healthcare and retirement support systems will be available to us?

The Avenir Museum of Design and Merchandising is Colorado State University's collection of historic fashion and textiles. As part of the university, the Avenir is closed on university holidays and breaks; check the Avenir website for the most up to date information about upcoming closures.
From shimmering silk to the deep reds of cochineal dye, insects have always been involved in the act of making textiles, just as humans have been bitten by the fashion bug throughout history. Join us to explore insect impact and inspiration on what we wear.

Then, Here, Now: Journeys of Love and Reflection
Tuesday, April 14, 7:30 p.m., Organ Recital Hall
Through the music of André Previn, Christopher Cerrone, Rosephanye Powell, and others, this program examines love’s evolution—from longing and loss to self-understanding and hope. These song cycles reveal deeply personal narratives expressed through diverse contemporary musical languages, highlighting the breadth of the modern art song tradition.
Emily Martin, an acclaimed American soprano and New England native, has built a dynamic 30-year career as an opera singer, stage director, voice teacher, vocologist, yoga instructor, and arts leader. Praised for her "enchanting iridescence" (The Sarasota Herald-Tribune), she has performed globally, including with The Santa Fe Opera and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. The Chicago Tribune named her 2020 album, Let Evening Come, one of 10 "Best Classical Recordings of 2020." She looks forward to recital dates in 2025-2026 in Utah, Virginia, Colorado, and Melbourne, Australia.

Join us at Old Firehouse Books as we welcome Dr. Jackson Crawford to discuss all things Norse! Jackson will be in store on Tuesday, April 14th from 6:00-7:00 PM to give a small lecture, answer questions and personalize copies for anyone who purchases them. If you'd like to order any books ahead of time you may do so in store or online, but we do not ship internationally. We can't wait to see you there!
About Poetic Edda:
This Expanded Second Edition of Jackson Crawford's 2015 translation of the Poetic Edda offers a wider range of poems (now including the Eddic Old Norse poem "Svipdagsmal" and four related non-Eddic Old Norse poems, "Eiriksmal," "Hakonarmal," "Krakumal," and "Lokrur") as well as a revised translation and enhanced editorial apparatus. Set in a new page design, it also features samples from the Old Norse texts written in the Old Norse runic alphabet known as the Younger Futhark (in Jackson Crawford's hand) along with original Old Norse-inspired Latin alphabet typographical ideograms (by E. L. Wilson).
About Jackson Crawford:
Jackson Crawford taught the Old Norse language, as well as courses in Norse mythology and Old Norse saga literature, for nine years at major universities (including UCLA from 2011-14, UC Berkeley from 2015-17, and the University of Colorado from 2017-20). He holds an MA in linguistics from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in Scandinavian studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he wrote a dissertation on color vocabulary in Old Norse. During that time he was also a consultant on Disney's Frozen and major television programs, as well as the popular video game Assassin's Creed:Valhalla. Since 2020, he has been an independent educator, using his Youtube channel and popular translations of Norse myths and sagas from Hackett Publishing to reach hundreds of thousands of viewers and readers with well-sourced information about Norse language, mythology, and runes. His research interests today focus on the relationship of the runes to Mediterranean alphabets, as well as the use of linguistic criteria to determine the date of Old Norse texts.

Your Tuesday evenings just got a lot better, and brainier, and beerier! Hosted by Maxline’s very own beertender and trivia guru, Michael Scott, it’s a great way to spend your Tuesday evening. Come enjoy six rounds of trivia covering a range of subjects, with prizes for both overall winners and some individual rounds. The fun begins at 6pm, and it’s free to play! Teams must have no more than six people to be eligible for prizes.
