About This Event

The Office of Arts and Culture presents a lecture series as part of the Experiments in Public Art program, which serves as a city-wide laboratory expanding the potential of public art. Unlike a traditional public art, Experiments in Public Art projects are as much a civic dialogue as they are opportunities for artists to work within unconventional parameters. The lecture series is a chance for the Boulder community to learn more about the program and what the possibilities of public art can be. Join us today for a compelling lecture by muralist Bimmer Torres on the power of public art to transform spaces and communities. "Art as Transformation: From Streets to Civic Spaces" explores Bimmer’s journey from graffiti writer to public artist, highlighting the impact of Chicano heritage, graffiti culture, and civic engagement in his work. Attendees will gain insight into his creative process and collaborations with youth programs, non-profits, and city initiatives. The lecture includes a hands-on mural workshop where participants can contribute to a collaborative mural, offering a glimpse into the community-driven nature of mural-making. This event is organized by the City of Boulder's Office of Arts and Culture in partnership with Street Wise Arts and the Boulder Public Library.
