Renowned pianist (and NY Times contributor) Jonathan Biss opens our season in grand style with the magisterial Concerto No. 2 by Brahms. Artistic inspiration permeates the first half with Carlos Simon’s high-energy The Block, based on paintings of Harlem storefronts, and Hindemith’s Mathis Der Maler, inspired by the life of Renaissance painter Matthias Grünewald.
