About This Event
Reimagined Sounds: Lyric Transformations for the Flute Tuesday, January 27, 7:30 p.m., Organ Recital Hall CSU faculty artists Ysmael Reyes, flute, and Jooyeon Chang, piano, explore how flutists and composers have reimagined vocal, orchestral, and instrumental voices into a unique lyrical language for the flute, and reinterpret music across eras. William Grant Still’s Three Songs, adapted from vocal originals, reveals the instrument’s lyrical depth and expressive warmth. Karg-Elert’s Symphonische Canzone draws on Romantic color and drama, while Jörg Widmann’s Petite Suitefor Flute Solo distills material from his flute concerto into a series of vivid, characterful miniatures. The recital concludes with Gabriel Fauré’s Violin Sonata in A Major, reimagined for flute and piano continuing a tradition of adapting expressive works for the instrument in periods when few composers wrote for it directly. CONCERT PROGRAM GUIDES/PLAYBILLS are available in a digital format only and may be viewed by scanning the QR code at the venue entrance or can be viewed in advance through a link on the ticketing site.
